Let’s tip our hats to the Cincinnati Art Museum cats!

CINCINNATI – June 20, 2016 – Cat lovers unite! Save the date for Cincinnati Art Museum’s FREE event Art After Dark: Cats and Cocktails, 5–9 p.m. on Friday, June 24.

Cats and Cocktails celebrates the opening of our summer exhibition Divine Felines: Cats of Ancient Egypt, a collection of approximately 80 artworks that explore the role of cats in Egyptian mythology, kingship and everyday life. Special cat-themed cocktails including “Purrrfect Punch” and “The Hair of the Cat” will be available for purchase for guests 21 and older. Food will be available for purchase throughout the evening.

The first 100 guests to arrive will receive a free pair of “cat ear” headbands at the door. Attendees are encouraged (but not required) to wear creative, cat-inspired attire such as leopard print outfits and cat t-shirts. No masks, please

The purrrfect schedule includes:

  • A cheetah will be on-site, in collaboration with the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden’s Traveling Cat Ambassador Program, for a “meet-and-greet” with guests from 5:45–6:15 p.m. in the ArtWorld room near the DeWitt entrance.
  • Mascot Scooter the Neutered Cat from organization Give Them Ten will be greeting guests and handing out laser pointers throughout the night. Six additional local animal shelters and animal assistance organizations will be on-site with literature, adoption information, and cat items for sale.
  • Local band the Young Heirlooms from will play live music from 6:30–8:30 p.m. in the Alice Bimel Courtyard.
  • Guided tours of featured exhibition Divine Felines: Cats of Ancient Egypt will meet at 5:30, 6:30, and 7:30 p.m. outside the Terrace Café. The exhibition will be open for self-guided tours all evening.
  • Following Art After Dark, The Internet Cat Video Festival will take place from 9:15–10:30 p.m. across the street from the Art Museum at Seasongood Pavilion. Organized by the Walker Art Center and presented by the Cincinnati Art Museum, this free, family-friendly program will feature approximately 100 public-nominated cat videos.
