Verbal Description

Hello, I’m John Hedges, a security guard at the museum. I will be sharing a description of Untitled by Gunybi Ganambarr in Clearly Indigenous: Native Visions Reimagined in Glass.

Gunybi Ganambarr, born in 1973, is an Aboriginal Australian artist, and Preston Singletary, born in 1963, is a Tlingit artist. They collaborated to craft Untitled in 2017 from blown and sand-carved glass. It is in the collection of Preston Singletary.

Untitled is a tall, slim, cylindrical vessel crafted from blown and sand carved glass. It is on the Balcony in a case along the railing to the left of the main gallery entrance. This piece measures 30 inches tall, five and one-half inches wide, and five and one-half inches deep, or 76.2 centimeters tall, 14 centimeters wide, and 14 centimeters deep. Untitled is black and white with wide-set zig-zagging lines running in different directions, perhaps representing water—a small boat with plank seats and a bundled net floats in the vessel’s lower quarter.
