SOLD OUT Studio Class: Ceramics – Surface Design

Thursdays from Thursday, April 6, 2023 to Thursday, May 11, 2023 at 6–7:45 p.m.

Engage with a variety of surface treatments for ceramics inspired by the artwork of Roberto Lugo. Learn how to create layered designs utilizing colored slips, texture, underglaze, and glazes. Students will walk away from this course having learned many introductory hand-building techniques, as well as a new repertoire of tools for bringing their ceramic surfaces come to life.

About the Teaching Artist:

Emma Robinson is a visual artist specializing in contemporary ceramics, figurative sculpture, and drawing. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from Bowling Green State University. Her work is varied, as she enjoys moving between gestural, feminine, decorative pottery and representational figurative sculpture that is concerned with social activism and social awareness. Emma’s artwork draws on inspiration from an amalgamation of personal experiences, particularly, her love of nature, animals, and a desire to learn about and promote social change. She is currently affiliated with Queen City Clay, where she completed a long-term residency and teaches a wide range of classes with a particular emphasis on surface design.

Registration is required. Full 6-week course registration only. Children must be at least 6 years old to participate. Students under 12 must be accompanied by an adult who is also enrolled in the class.

All artmaking materials will be provided.
