 hrough the </span><span>1890’s with</span><span> a talk by </span><span>A
 ndrew Eschelbacher\, PhD\, the exhibition curator of </span><a href="/art
 /exhibitions/upcoming-exhibitions/farm-to-table/"><em><span>Farm to Table
 : Food and Identity in the Age of Impressionism</span></em></a><span>. Fo
 od had long been central to French identity but was never more so than in
  these tumultuous years. From representations of sumptuous ingredients an
 d severe privation\, bountiful meals and agrarian crises\, the era's depi
 ctions of markets and gardens\, farmers\, chefs\, and restaurants were ce
 ntral to the complex effort to define what it meant to be French.</span> 
 <span></span></p>\n<p><strong>About the speaker:</strong><br /><span>Andr
 ew Eschelbacher serves as Director of Collections and Exhibitions at the 
 Amon Carter Museum of American Art. He has previously held positions as D
 irector of Curatorial Affairs at the American Federation of Arts (AFA)\, 
 a Chester Dale Fellow at the Metropolitan Museum of Art\, the Susan Donne
 ll and Harry W. Konkel Associate Curator of European Art at the Portland 
 Museum of Art (Portland\, ME)\, and as an Assistant Professor at the Virg
 inia Military Institute.</span> </p>\n<p><span>Eschelbacher is the curato
 r and editor of </span><em><span><a href="/art/exhibitions/upcoming-exhib
 itions/farm-to-table/">Farm to Table: Art\, Food\, and Identity in the Ag
 e of Impressionism</a>\, </span></em><span>and has previously curated exh
 ibitions and edited catalogues including </span><em><span>Monuments and M
 yths: The America of Sculptors Augustus Saint-Gaudens</span></em> <em><sp
 an>and Daniel Chester French </span></em><span>as well and </span><em><sp
 an>A New American Sculpture: Lachaise\, Laurent\, Nadelman\, and Zorach</
 span></em><span>. He holds a PhD and Master of Arts in art history from t
 he University of Maryland\, College Park and Tulane University\, respecti
 vely\, as well as a Bachelor of Arts from Davidson College.</span> </p>\n
