Strauss, Cincinnati, 1956-1961, given to; Cincinnati Art Museum, 1961-present. Notes: [1] The CAM's two Pisan panels, Male Saint and Female Saint, were originally part of a large altarpiece. The panels were a part of a portion of the polyptych that still remained intact in the 1920s. The partial altarpiece was published by Frederico Zeri as formerly from the Volterra Collection in "The Literature of Art," Burlington Magazine, vol. 109, August 1967, p. 476, no. 59. Also see correspondence with Zeri, January 3, 1978; and John T. Spike, Italian Paintings in the CAM, 1993, pp. 66-69. [2] Rey, of the Maison de la Diete Sion, stated on a certificate that the panel was in his personal collection for twenty years. Correspondence, September 27, 1956.; Gift of Mrs. (Louise) Albert I.
