This bedspread is getting "ready for her close-up." The conservator works with the photographer and the curator to arrange objects being photographed “just so,” including this bedspread being photographed for the catalog for the Joseph Urban bedroom being prepared for exhibition in fall 2021.
Here, the conservator is fixing the drape of the gathered skirt to help it looks its best and to hide areas that are fragile and damaged. The painted silk taffeta bedspread has been treated for extensive splitting of the delicate fabric, but you’ll have to look very close to find any of the fine stitching and patch supports.
