Introducing the CAM Green Team: The Green Team was founded in early 2019 by an interdepartmental team of museum staff dedicated to creating sustainable practices within the museum. As a starting point, the team took steps to create a culture of sustainability among the staff at the museum. A compost collection was started in the staff lunch room, representatives from Hamilton County Recycling The Civic Garden Center and Cincinnati Zoo were invited to talk to staff about sustainability, and information about local green offerings was shared with staff to encourage awareness and participation in sustainability efforts in the community.

On a larger scale, the team helped to facilitate a building audit to provide starting point data that would help determine what projects to prioritize. The audit lead to the installation of automatic lights and a switch to LED bulbs throughout the entire building.

The Green Team has also joined with local and regional leaders in sustainability like Hamilton County Recycling and Solid Waste District, Green Umbrella, and 2030 District. Through the Hamilton County Recycling and Solid Waste District, we were awarded funding for a Pollution Prevention Intern who worked over the summer to build a system to track pollution metrics at the museum to further our sustainability efforts.
