CAM Kids Day is back at the Cincinnati Art Museum for a new season of free family fun. Held on the first Saturday of each month from October through April, CAM Kids Day invites families to discover the museum through artist-led projects, interactive performances, scavenger hunts, and creative activities for all ages.
Starting things off, families explored photographic fun with October’s theme, "In the Frame," inspired by the exhibition Nancy Rexroth: Secrets of My Power. Visitors helped create a stop-motion film with artist Kenton Brett, experimented with cyanotypes alongside artist Charity Rust Jordan, made art with Visionaries + Voices, and enjoyed music, storytelling, and hands-on activities throughout the museum.
October also introduced Family Songs and Stories, a new gallery program for families with children ages 5 and under. Featuring songs from May Festival MiNiS and stories from the Cincinnati & Hamilton County Public Library, the program encourages little learners and their grown-ups to sing, listen, and discover art together.
Next up is November CAM Kids Day, "Creature Feature," (on November 7) is inspired by The Art of Charley Harper: Creatures Wild and Tame. Families can meet live bird ambassadors from Raptor, Inc., get up close with fascinating insect specimens alongside The Bug Chicks, create animal masks with artist Seb Laspiur, and color screen-printed posters from DIY Printing. Visitors can also play in an imaginary campsite, contribute to a collaborative forest scene, and help create a flock of origami passenger pigeons.
The fun continues this winter. December’s theme, "Remix," (on December 5) is inspired by Cincinnati artist Terence Hammonds and his upcoming exhibition, Terence Hammonds: Soul is a Ham Hock in Your Cornflakes. Families will experiment with mixing, matching, and transforming ideas through hands-on art making and activities.
In January, “Royal Banquet” (on January 2) will transport families to a whimsical world of kings and queens. Create a family banner, meet a live knight, and enjoy a day of royal adventures fit for the whole court. Additional themes will be announced in 2027, so stay tuned!
We hope you’ll join us for a season filled with fun, creativity, and a little bit of museum magic!
