My name is Maria-Crystal Galindo Oskovich Kutondo, though most people just call me Crystal! In June, I joined the Cincinnati Art Museum as the new Community Engagement Coordinator, and I am honored to be part of this vibrant community.
Originally from Madera, California, located near Yosemite National Park, I am a Kenyan Latina artist with a background in nonprofit and educational arts programming. I earned my bachelor’s degree in Illustration and Storyboarding from California State University, Northridge, and have spent the past several years creating meaningful (and most importantly, fun!) arts experiences that bring people together through creativity, culture, and connection.
After moving to Cincinnati this past March, I quickly fell in love with the city’s rich history, diverse neighborhoods, and strong sense of community. During my first months at the museum, I have been listening, learning, and building relationships throughout Greater Cincinnati while exploring the museum’s collections, programs, and partnerships. These experiences have deepened my appreciation for the role museums can play in fostering connection and belonging.
Inspired by these conversations, I am developing Building Bridges, a community engagement initiative focused on strengthening relationships with BIPOC communities, including students, artists, families, and community organizations across the region. Through collaborative programs centered on art, culture, creativity, and wellness, I hope to create opportunities for people to see themselves reflected in the museum, deepen their sense of belonging, and feel welcomed within our spaces.
As both an artist and community builder, I believe art has the power to connect people, celebrate diverse perspectives, and create lasting relationships. Thank you for welcoming me to Cincinnati and to the Cincinnati Art Museum family. I look forward to all that we will create together! If you’d like to learn more about Building Bridges or Community Engagement at the museum, please feel free to reach out anytime.
