Woman with Flowers, 1972, Oil and collage on canvas, Art Bridges, Bentonville, Arkansas

Audio Description

Woman with Flowers from 1972 is oil and collage on canvas. It is in the collection of Art Bridges in Bentonville, Arkansas.

This is a square mixed-media artwork on canvas called Woman with Flowers. Driskell used oil paint and collage. In the foreground, there is a mixture of paint and paper collage depicting a Black woman with her eyes closed, holding flowers. The left and right sides of her face are collaged as separate pieces. The right side is applied lower than the left side. Her clothes are light and dark blue, but at times it is hard to know where the flowers begin and the clothes end. On her torso, there is a mix of green, fuchsia, and yellow in spots and streaks. The background is a mixture of paint and collage, with two vertical brown collage pieces at the top depicting a chair. Behind the chair is a loose grid, in three rows of three, with squares of red, blue, and green paint next to collaged fragments of paper with black and white patterns.
