Now in its fifth year, the Koetters CPS 4th Grade Program continues to connect Cincinnati Public Schools students with the Cincinnati Art Museum through a curriculum-aligned experience in art looking and art making. Since 2020, the program has invited every 4th grader in Cincinnati Public Schools to engage with the Cincinnati Wing, a distinctive part of the museum’s collection that highlights our city’s history and artists. Because the experience aligns directly with Ohio history instruction in the 4th-grade curriculum, it gives students meaningful opportunities to connect classroom learning with firsthand encounters in the museum.
During each visit, students participate in a one-hour docent-guided tour followed by an art-making experience led by CAM staff that reinforces ideas introduced in the galleries. In past years, projects have included ceramics, landscapes, and portraits. This year, the program focused on sculpture, with students creating their own mobile sculptures inspired by Alexander Calder. The project invited students to apply observation, creativity, and problem-solving as they experimented with form and balance.
This year, the program served 839 students across 18 schools. To bring this opportunity to your students and help expand the program’s reach, please contact Alexa Ramirez, Manager of School Partnerships, at [email protected] to sign up or learn more.
