Over the past 10 years, the Rosenthal Education Center (REC) has hosted nearly 300,000 visitors while featuring 19 different exhibitions, seven artists in residence, and countless unique and special artworks created by our youngest visitors.

On March 7, 2015, the REC opened to the public with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, cookies, laughter, and fun—and on March 9, 2025, the REC celebrated ten years of artmaking and creativity with cupcakes, pinatas, face painting, dancing AND many ribbons being cut (for birthday crowns and silly glasses!)

The party featured Nat Jones from Q102 who spun kid friendly dance music—from Chappell Roan to the Hokey Pokey—while Little Fox Face Painting turned happy faces into beautiful works of art. Terence Hammonds, celebrated Cincinnati artist and former REC Artist in Residence, hosted a hilarious story time, and Pam Kravetz, the REC’s very first Artist in Residence and Cincinnati art legend, brought the party all day long. Visitors participated in party games like “Pin the Tail on the Red Rooster,” centered on a kinetic sculpture by Christian Schmit and inspired by the red rooster in Chagall’s eponymous painting on the second floor of the museum. And what birthday party isn’t complete without a pinata and cupcakes?

The celebration also included very special guests, from former REC artists in residence like John Lanzador and Julia Lipovsky, to future artist in residence Karen Saunders. Even Mr. Paint, the REC’s mascot, made an appearance! The most special guests of all at the birthday party were Dick and Kitty Rosenthal, who’s special gift has made the REC possible. Thanks to all who came out to celebrate the REC!

Don’t miss RECade: Ten Years of the Rosenthal Education Center in the REC through April 20, 2025. The Rosenthal Education Center is open during normal museum operating hours. Reservations are not required. Admission is free for all.
