Lotus Flower Painting
Join us for a unique program for adult audiences to try out a new art technique. Learn more about the exhibition From Shanghai to Ohio: Woo Chong Yung (1898–1989) with a discussion in the galleries led by museum staff. Then, gather in the Rosenthal Education Center (REC) for a lesson on how to paint graceful lotus flowers using ancient ink and wash techniques with Yufeng Wang, PhD, professor and artist. Highly esteemed in Buddhism and Chinese and East Asian cultures, the intriguing lotus flower symbolizes purity, elegance, and enlightenment. The goal of Chinese ink and wash painting is not simply to reproduce the appearance of the subject, but to capture its soul.
