These two 1st Century CE ceramics from Petra are in the objects lab receiving conservation. Each has a small section of loss along the rim that will be recreated to show the complete form of the vessel. The first step in recreating the small missing fragments is taking a mold of the existing rim sections using a thin sheet of wax. Using this mold positioned over the missing section, the new fragment is cast using plaster.
The new plaster fragment is then painted a neutral background color that matches the surrounding ceramic while still being identifiable as an unoriginal piece.
