I would like to introduce myself as Mari, an art educator based in Northern Kentucky, and the new School-Based Learning Intern at the Cincinnati Art Museum. I recently graduated from Northern Kentucky University with a Bachelors in Studio Arts and a focus in education, and I just wrapped up an internship with the Taft Museum of Art.
I am passionate about sharing creativity and have a thrill for artistic exploration! What personally excites me is seeing new perspectives expressed by artists in their work.
My personal work is often inspired by printmakers, such as Käthe Kollwitz, with my preferred mediums being charcoal and pyrography. I adore the touch of charcoal and the intimidate feeling of connecting with the medium through therapeutic blending. Pyrography, or woodburning, is also very enriching, in that you feel very connected to the medium, but in an entirely different way. Through the subtractive method of burning the wood away, and sometimes in an extreme manner with fire, it feels much more intense.
I’m excited to be with the Cincinnati Art Museum and feel like I have much I can give and learn from the team! I am looking forward to taking part in and leading workshops at Evenings for Educators as well as art making for the Summer Teacher Institute. I am thrilled to meet new people, and hopefully I will see you at one of our upcoming education programs!
