CINCINNATI— In celebration of Independence Day, the Cincinnati Art Museum is offering free admission for all to new special exhibition Kimono: Refashioning Contemporary Style, on Thursday, July 4, from 11 a.m.–8 p.m. General admission to the museum is always free.

The museum’s newest exhibition celebrates the enduring influence of the kimono on fashion. Organized in partnership with the Kyoto Costume Institute and Asian Art Museum, San Francisco, this exhibition displays Japanese kimono side by side with more than 50 couture ensembles from the 1870s to today. Featured designers include Coco Chanel, John Galliano, Iris van Herpen, and Issey Miyake—plus over a dozen pieces of fashion, textiles and paintings from CAM’s permanent collection.

Tickets are currently on sale for Kimono: Refashioning Contemporary Style, which will be on view from June 28–September 15. Normally, ticket prices are $10 for adults and $5 for children, seniors and college students. Tickets are available for purchase at the Cincinnati Art Museum front desk and at cincinnatiartmuseum.org. Tickets are free for members and no tickets are required on Thursday evenings, 5–8 p.m. and during Art After Dark on June 28, July 26 and August 30 from 5–10 p.m.

This exhibition’s Cincinnati presentation is organized with the generous support of Huntington Bank, Toyota of Cincinnati, Wacoal and the Japan Foundation. Kimono: Refashioning Contemporary Style will be on view in the Western & Southern galleries (galleries 232 and 233).

Special exhibition No Spectators: The Art of Burning Man is also on view at the Cincinnati Art Museum, with free admission, through September 2.
