Led by the Cincinnati Art Museum, the Art Bridges Cohort program brings together a unique collaborative experience involving institutions around the Ohio Valley region, including the Kennedy Museum, Denison Museum, West Virginia University Art Museum, the University of Kentucky Art Museum, and Southern Ohio Museum and Cultural Center.
This program, in conjunction with the Art Bridges Foundation, aims to expand access to extraordinary works of American art through two phases of exhibition projects. During the first phase, partnered museums will work with the Cincinnati Art Museum to request loans to curate an exhibition at their home museum that pertains to the interests of that museum and their community. In the second phase, all museums will pull works of art from all their collections to develop an exhibition that will travel throughout all six museums.
Denison Museum
August 29–November 29, 2024
Immerse yourself in the diverse interpretations of how we perceive and depict individual identities across cultures and continents, delving into the essence of what it means to capture a person in visual form.
Kennedy Museum
January 17–July 6, 2025
The exhibition Pairings: CAM Paintings & KMA Prints activates the Kennedy Museum of Art’s collection of prints by well-known American artists originally acquired as a teaching resource for Ohio University students. Pairing prints with paintings by the same artists included in the Cincinnati Art Museum’s collections bridges a gap of representation in the medium of painting and provides access to art historical works previously unavailable to audiences in rural Southeastern Ohio. Featured artists are Josef Albers, Nancy Graves, Alex Katz, and Robert Motherwell.
West Virginia University Art Museum
January 24–May 4, 2025
Co-curated by Robert Bridges with the 2024 WVU Faculty Fellow Adam Komisaruk, Director of Graduate Studies in the Department of English in conjunction with the class Material Texts: The Past, Present, and Future of the Book
Radiant Pages: The Art of the Book explores how books can serve as a medium for inventive works of visual art, and how the collaboration between text and image can bring independent visions to the forefront, whether they contradict or reinforce each other.
