Kraushaar Galleries purchased the painting from Galerie Georges Petit, Paris. Specific dates of Kraushaar's ownership are unknown, but Kraushaar owned the painting when they included it in an exhibition of American and European paintings, in December 1921. See correspondence, July 18, 2002. [2] The CAM's painting may be identical to one exhibited at M. Knoedler & Co., Newport, titled Moret: Sunset, measuring 36 1/2 x 29 in. If this refers to the CAM's painting, it is not known whether it was loaned to the exhibition or owned outright by M. Knoedler & Co. See Exhibition of Modern French Painting, M. Knoedler & Co., Newport, June 15 to June 27, 1936, no. 22. [3] The curatorial file includes information on the painting that was prepared by Schneider-Gabriel Galleries. It was probably presented to the Strietmanns when they were considering purchasing the work. A photograph of the painting is included in the archives of the Schneider-Gabriel Galleries, held at the Archives of American Art, Washington, D.C.
