Evenings for Educators: Make It-Take It with Sue Griebling

Thursday, March 13, 2025 from 4–7 p.m.

Registration required.
Members: $10
General public: $20
College students: $5

Enjoy an evening learning about the work of mixed media artist Sue Griebling. Her creative journey began in childhood, sparked by the traditional arts of knitting and sewing. A fascination with texture expanded as Sue explored the intricate world of Amish quilt making and honed her skills as a weaver. While completing a doctorate in education, she studied children’s interactions with the arts in their classroom culture, blending her educational insights with her artistic pursuits. More recently, Sue has begun to intertwine fibers with various materials like paint, paper, and acrylic mediums, resulting in pieces that embody both feminine and masculine characteristics. As a lifelong learner and experimenter, she invites you to explore the rich narratives woven into her art. Enjoy dinner and an art-making lesson led by Sue. For each program attended, you can earn CEU’s and 1–2 graduate credits for an additional fee.

About Evenings for Educators
Evenings for Educators is the museum’s monthly teacher professional development program. Through the lens of the museum’s collection and exhibitions, Evenings for Educators supports all subjects taught in the classroom. It also encourages a STREAM approach as well as twenty-first-century learning strategies. The program is offered for teachers of all grade levels and disciplines, art appreciation volunteers, pre-service education majors, teaching artists, as well as community and museum educators.

Artist Statement
Garden Delights is a vibrant series that springs to life through the interplay of painted and layered tissue paper combined with acrylic medium. Drawing inspiration from fellow artist Marabeth Quin’s innovative approach to collage, these pieces reflect the beauty and diversity of the native plant garden cultivated by Sue's husband at their home. Each artwork invites viewers to immerse themselves in a lush tapestry of color and texture, celebrating the delicate balance of nature and the artistry of the garden that flourishes just outside their door.
