In 2023 the City of Cincinnati proclaimed June 8 to be Dr. Hou-mei Sung Day, in honor of the museum’s curator of East Asian Art. Dr. Sung made international headlines in 2022 with her remarkable discovery of a rare Buddhist “magic mirror,” one of only three known in the world.
The magic mirror is just one of Dr. Sung’s notable contributions to the Cincinnati community. She also brought the legendary Terracotta Army to town in 2018, and organized the fan-favorite Dressed to Kill: Japanese Arms and Armor in 2017.
See Dr. Sung’s latest work now on display in From Shanghai to Ohio: Woo Chong Yung (1898–1989), on view through August 18, 2024, and watch the interactive Dr. Hou-mei Sung Day proclamation below.
