A Closer look at Jaume Plensa’s Isabella

Located outside the museum’s Longworth wing, Isabella by artist Jaume Plensa (Spanish, b. 1955) stands peacefully in an open bed of grass unto herself. Her eyes are closed, and her expression is peaceful as though she is in a deep restful slumber.

It’s hard to miss the monumental 3-D capital “A” welcoming visitors to CAM’s campus from Art Museum Drive. Painted a bright red—like the museum’s brand color—some suggest the giant steel beam structure stands for “Art.” But the artist’s intent was not so driven by marketing concerns!
